Caldwell Custom Carpets - a garage success
Caldwell Custom Carpets manufactures step rugs and other products in owner's Tracey Caldwell's garage.
Tracey Caldwell loves living in Red Deer. She said she has the best of both worlds – Edmonton and Calgary are nearby, Saskatchewan is not much further,and she is two hours from the mountains.
Originally from Saskatchewan, she has made Red Deer her home, and her business operates out of her garage.
Caldwell owns Caldwell Custom Carpets. She manufactures custom carpets for RVs, and they are getting more and more popular.
“I love RVing, and I have a small 24 foot RV, which advertises my business,” said Caldwell. “If I can, I take it to farmers markets to advertise my step rugs, our premium product.”
Caldwell, a single mother of two daughters, also works full time as an inventory adviser for a metal company, so she has her hands full. She is involved in another business, Caldwell Custom Flooring as well, which, she said, is run by her fantastic manager. Her daughters help out with the business to make it a real family affair.
“My speciality is business manufacturing and marketing, and I just ran with it to start my own business,” said Caldwell.
“We decided there was a market for these carpets, and we started in 2006,” she said. “We bought up some binders, and focused on making really high quality rugs in the garage of my house.”
Caldwell said that they do all the sewing, binding and cutting themselves.
The rubber backed rugs can be custom ordered. They are for indoor/outdoor use, they are UV inhibited, and heavily bound so will stand up to heavy traffic. They can be attached with a Velcro fastening system so the carpet can be snug or a little looser. A special curved step rug is available. Check out their website.
