To really experience the wide open road, Saskatchewan is the place to go. Driving is a surprisingly calm experience that can be interspersed with short stops to view unique landscapes and longer visits to interesting cities.

A visit to Yorkton might be right on your travel route. Check out Broadway Street to truly discover this city. At the west end of this street you will reach the Gallagher Recreation Centre and the Painted Hand Casino.

Over the summer, the recreation centre hosts horse racing every Friday night. Make it an evening with a steak supper on the grounds. During the August long weekend you can stop by the Western Development Museum for its excellent Thresherman’s Show. Here, the area’s agricultural history comes alive through working antiques and traditional arts.

A variety of other events, Ukrainian cuisine and interesting walking tours will show that Yorkton is, indeed, “where good things happen.”
