Next time you plan a camping holiday with your family, consider Beaver County—an Alberta destination with a ton of offerings for any RV enthusiast. There are markets, festivals, vast campgrounds and shimmering lakes that make visitors feel welcome and entertained during their entire stay. Here are some of the top things to see and do while RVing with your family in Beaver County.

1. Festival fun

Beaver County is the site of numerous events that are well suited to families. Take in Ryley Sports Day, Holden Farmers Day or Vikings in the Streets, to name a few. If you are looking for some rodeo action, plan to attend the Tofield Sodbuster Rodeo or the Bruce Stampede, which is now in its 100th year.

“(At the Bruce Stampede) enjoy rodeo performances, a concert by Hey Romeo, pony chuckwagon and pony chariot races, fireworks, a parade, pancake breakfast and more,” said Julie Ewashko, community development co-ordinator for Beaver County.

2. Experience the bounty

In August, you can take part in the annual Experience the Bounty in Beaver County event. This driving route incorporates some of the best agri-tourism attractions and culinary delights that the county has to offer.

“Great for the entire family, this driving route event takes you across the region,” said Ewashko. “You can explore family events, farmers markets, farm tours, regional cuisine and unique businesses.”

3. Black Nugget Lake

While you’re in the area, be sure to spend some time at Black Nugget Lake—a pleasant campground with group areas and exciting outdoor activities. Some of the campsites have waterfront access, and there is a boat launch, picnic shelters, showers, concession, a playground with sand and a large playing field.

“While at Black Nugget Lake you can enjoy bird watching, boating, canoeing, backcountry hiking, trout fishing and horseshoe pits,” said Ewashko. “Next door lies the new 18-hole Coal Creek Golf Resort, so don’t forget to pack your clubs.”

4. Be bound for the beach

Camp Lake Park is more than just a camping spot. It also offers two gorgeous beaches, a boat launch and boat trailer parking, as well as all the amenities to make your RVing experience a positive one. The kids will enjoy the swimming, playground, hiking trails, beach volleyball, canoeing and other outdoor entertainment while they are there. You might also want to try your hand at sailing or even go waterskiing.

5. Appreciate art, culture and nature

There are plenty of ways to learn about Beaver County’s natural and cultural heritage. The Beaverhill Lake Nature Centre and Museum in Tofield is a stopping point for more than 270 species of migratory birds, and there is also a small museum and art gallery on site.

The Beaver Regional Arts Theatre in Holden and the Kinsella Performing Arts Centre in Kinsella regularly host live theatre and musical performances with impressive local talent.

Also be sure to visit the Ryley Museum, Holden Museum and Viking Museum—all excellent facilities with interesting exhibits to see.
