Stroll into Fort St. John’s past

Explore the city's heritage by checking out the museum and the Pioneer Pathway

Visitors can stop in at the Fort St. John Peace Museum to learn more about the pioneers who toiled in the area. These people shaped the area’s most valuable resources: oil and gas. The dedicated museum staff can educate visitors about the Beaver and Cree First Nation influences, the local oil and gas industry, farming, midwifery and much more.

Take the Pioneer Pathway through Fort St. John. A self-guided walking tour can transport visitors back to an earlier time and will introduce some of the eccentric characters who made Fort St. John what it is today. Historical panels explain the area’s rich history dating all the way back to the 1930s. Be sure to stop at the visitors centre first—this is the beginning of the Pioneer Pathway, and the friendly staff here can point out other interesting places in town.

In Fort St. John, visitors will discover plenty of services and shops, as well as tourist attractions. For recreation lovers, Fish Creek Community Forest has more than 10 kilometres of paved walking trails. Centennial Park, the grassy hub of Fort St. John, is home to a rose garden, beach volleyball courts, a spray park and playgrounds.
