Those entering Camrose, be warned: you won’t be leaving this entertaining town anytime soon.

1) Join in the festivities

It’s big, it’s bold and it’s happening from July 28 to 31, 2011—it’s the Big Valley Jamboree (BVJ).

Heading into its 19th year, the BVJ has had some of the biggest acts in country music grace its main stage. The festival attracts up to 90,000 spectators every year, and many of them are longtime BVJ fans.

The jamboree is much more than just music, though—street performers, a casino, bull riding and a trade show round out the entertainment.

“When people see the final lineup, they’re going to be impressed,” said Larry Werner, the producer of BVJ. “You get some of the classics and the headliners, but you also get the up-and-comers that need the festival stage to showcase their talent.”

2) Choo-choo-choose the park

Open from the May long weekend until the end of August, the Camrose Railway Station and Park is the spot to learn some local history.

3) Live the sporting life

Camrose has a rich hockey spirit—the Camrose Kodiaks have been one of the most successful teams at the Junior A level.

4) Meet at the theatre

A multimillion-dollar renovation project is transforming Camrose’s historic Bailey Theatre, the oldest of its kind in Alberta.  The aim is to have construction completed for the theatre’s centennial in 2011.

5) Get the hole story

Be sure to save some room for golf clubs when packing your RV. There are a number of primo golf courses in Camrose, catering to a variety of skill levels and price ranges.
