Cranbrook has a historical flavour all its own, with several noteworthy attractions that represent the city’s heritage. Whether you seek to learn about First Nations culture, or to be inspired by restored heritage sites, there is something here for you.

Fort Steele can’t be beat

Every visitor to Cranbrook should make time to see Fort Steele Heritage Town. This is the place to go for a taste of the good old days, with events and activities going on throughout the year. The kids will love taking a wagon ride, seeing the resident farm animals and tasting confectionaries from the old-fashioned shops.

There is no shortage of entertainment, and live street theatre takes place on a regular basis. Wild West Wednesdays offer a package that includes a train ride (watch out for robbers), a barbecue and refreshments. You can also reserve a seat for the Saturday Night on the Town events, which include dinner, a live theatre show at the Wildhorse Theatre and a sunset steam train ride.

More historical treats

If you have a passion for rail history, then you will be glad  you came to Cranbrook. The Trains Deluxe Canadian
Museum of Rail Travel
has earned many prestigious accolades for its impressive collection of restored train cars and other memorabilia. It truly stands out as an attraction, and a tour is highly recommended.

Another historical must-see is the Ktunaxa Interpretive Centre located in the St. Eugene Golf Resort Casino. Here you can learn more about the struggles and triumphs of the local First Nations people, and see handcrafted artwork.
