Award-worthy
This resort has earned its reputation
How do you review an RV resort that has won three awards by RV rating agencies? We did, and found many reasons why Rio Bend RV and Golf Resort is rated so highly. We arrived at Rio Bend early for our meeting with manager Carolyn Corrigan, to find a parade of people converging in the reception area. We checked out the Buckboard Café, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday. As we returned to the office, we watched fiften women do aqua aerobics in the heated pool. This is where the people we first saw were heading.
Our next stop was the executive golf course, which borders a 20-acre lake with catch and release fishing. The club will sponsor a golfing event with proceeds going to the Cans for Kids charity. Who says retirement means doing nothing for others? Leading the “good life” allows plenty of time for Rio Benders to give back and share the wealth.
In touring the various buildings, we came across Janet, who was organizing a recipe book. Anyone can contribute a recipe and the proceeds will be donated to the House of Hope charity.
A grand impression
Continuing on with our tour, we went back to the oleander-lined entranceway to take a few pictures. This is the first impression one gets upon entering the resort, and it is a memorable one.
We then travelled through wide streets lined with park models, RVs and motorhomes. We were told that 80 per cent of the people here were from Canada.
Other buildings are used for indoor activities, such as jewellery making, pottery (with a wheel and kiln provided), painting, dancing and jam sessions. Library facilities as well as Spanish and computer classes are also available. Outdoor pursuits are focused on the pool—with such activities as water aerobics and arthroswim.
A unique activity, arthroswim is an adaptation of the Arthritis Foundation’s aquatic program. It helps with pain management and increases flexibility, strength and endurance. Bocce, softball and campfire nights are additional activities at this resort.
The resort had recently put on a Mexican dinner party and everyone was looking forward to the next event. It is no wonder that Rio Bend is the recipient of three coveted awards.
