Top things to see and do in Lake Country
Lake Country has tranquil surroundings and festive residents
The District of Lake Country is a sublime area in the Thompson Okanagan, where visitors will find everything they could possibly want. Here are the Top 5 activities and attractions that the Lake Country Chamber of Commerce was proud to share with us:
1) Luxurious lakes
There are 20 parks in Lake Country, 14 of which have public swimming beaches on Wood, Kalamalka and Okanagan lakes. There are also smaller lakes and resorts at Beaver, Dee and Oyama lakes, where visitors can fish, go boating in small watercraft, snowshoe, hike or snowmobile.
2) Hot on the trail
The plentiful walking/hiking trails in this region offer some amazing views. A particularly stunning viewpoint can be seen from the Spion Kop Mountain hiking trail.
3) Wine wisdom
Award-winning wineries make this area a must-see for connoisseurs. There are three such facilities in Lake Country: Gray Monk, Arrowleaf Cellars and Ex Nihilo.
4) Artistic flair
Lake Country ArtWalk is the largest of its kind in the British Columbia Interior. The program showcases more than 300 visual and performing artists from the Okanagan Valley, including more than 3,000 original art pieces. The region also hosts 20 annual community events, and houses cultural centres such as Creekside Theatre, the Barn Gallery and Lake Country Museum, to name a few. There are artisans galore and even free live musical performances during the summer months.
5) Back to their roots
Lake Country's agricultural heritage is celebrated regularly, with a Friday night farmers market, Gatzke’s farm market and other local farm and orchard providers that supply the community with fresh fruits and veggies throughout the year.
