Quick and easy kindling
Keep your digits safe with the easy-to-use Kindling Maker.
Charles ‘Chic’ Tyson has come up with a novel way of making kindling quickly and efficiently, without the worry of accidentally nicking a finger trying to get the slimmest wood pieces possible. He straightforwardly calls it the Kindling Maker, and that’s exactly what it does.
Using a simple pump motion combined with a hinge and ladder design, users can easily slice quarter-inch to inch-thin pieces of wood that make starting a fire incredibly fast and easy. The user-friendly device is designed for setup on a picnic table, but can easily be used on any flat surface, from the bed of a truck to the flat ground by the fire pit. Its folding design makes storage practically effortless.
“It’s just a safe, easy way to make kindling,” said Tyson. “As the demographic gets older—the average age of an RV owner is 45-plus—it’s important that the device is easy to use. I’m 53 and it’s so easy to get the fire going now. Even my kids all have one and take it camping with them, and they’ll tell you it’s way better than swinging an axe.”
The Kindling Maker comes in three models—portable, trailer mount and wall mount. The portable model is the original, and the trailer and wall mounts were later made as a response to feedback by Tyson’s friends and family. Trailer mounts fit up to a four-inch square bumper and wall mounts can be attached to posts or trees using screws or ratchet straps.
