Vancouver Island a thrill to explore

Reva and Dale Djos love exploring the beautiful island they call home.

Vancouver Island is a magical place with endless destinations to explore. For Reva Djos, winner of our November photo contest, it's the place she calls home. Reva and her husband Dale have been RVing on and off for years. Two years ago they bought a 2007 Fleetwood Bounder and now that they are both retired they have all the time in the world to explore the island.

"We mostly camp on the island and like to stay in B.C.," said Reva. "It's a little expensive to get off the island, but we will sometimes travel to Alberta where my husband's family is from, and we've taken a few trips to the States."

Reva can't possibly pick a favourite place on the island.

"Everywhere you go, it's absolutely beautiful," she said. "Every place is unique. We've spent a lot of time in Salmon Point in Campbell River, the Living Forest near Nanaimo and Crystal Cove in Tofino. We just kind of decide where we're going and pick a campground. We like to go to different places and see different things. There's so much to see on the island, you don't need to leave."

All in all, Reva and Dale spend about two months of the year RVing. After being married for 40 years, they find a lot of enjoyment in the RV lifestyle and especially love to share it with their granddaughter, who is three years old.

"The picture that won the contest is of my granddaughter and I playing on the beach and skipping with a piece of seaweed," said Reva. "She's from back east, so it's a novelty for her... and for me. We had so much fun running in the waves, laughing and giggling. She gets spoiled a lot and I hope that's why she comes back every year to go camping with Grandma and Grandpa. That day was one of the most memorable for me, for sure."

Reva and Dale look forward to continuing the RV lifestyle and spending their retirement years travelling around. Reva's dream is to one day drive across Canada.
