2) Time-honoured traditions
Just a short drive from Cranbrook, you can find Fort Steele Heritage Town. This vintage-themed townsite hosts special events and tours of the restored heritage buildings and exhibits. You can shop at one of the old-fashioned stores, ride on a train or take in a show at Wild Horse Theatre.

If you like to hit the greens—on the course or in the casino—Cranbrook has a special place that will meet your needs. The Kootenay Trout Hatchery is located near Cranbrook, and is a fun place to bring the whole family. You can see aquariums and educational displays, and take a guided tour any time from May through August. There are gorgeous areas on the property where you can picnic or take a walk with a nature guide, and kids can even feed some of the resident trout. There is a turtle pond, and a children's catch-and-release fishing pond as well.
