We stayed at the Roubaix Lake State campground for a couple of extra days, because it was so peaceful and beautiful in the trees beside the small lake. We visited Rapid City, South Dakota, which is a fairly large city with several beautiful parks and historic buildings.

We also went to Sturgis, South Dakota. Now most everyone has heard of the Sturgis motorcycle rally which is held in the second week of August each year. In reality the bikers arrive and stay for about a month surrounding the rally. We saw a great number of motorbikes on the highways in the Black Hills. We were told the rally attracts upwards of 600,000 bikers annually into this city of 6,500 people. Many of the bikers have been coming for several years and so they renew old acquaintances.
